Nylon or Polyester? Which Carpet Fiber is Best for You?

When selecting a new carpet for your home, it is important to understand the different types of fibers in order to make the perfect choice. Nylon and Polyester are two of the most popular options to pick from, but before deciding, you should take into consideration their unique distinctions.

Nylon: This type of carpet fiber is very durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic, making this a good choice for areas such as living rooms, hallways, and stairs that are used on a consistent basis.

However, many Nylon products are not recommended in high moisture areas such as basements due to high absorption rate within the fibers, which could cause an increase in staining as well.

Polyester: This type of carpet fiber is generally softer, more cost-effective, and easy to clean, making it a good choice for homes with pets and children that are prone to accidents and spills. Polyester is an ideal choice for lower traffic areas such as bedrooms, where a softer feel underfoot is appreciated.

However, most Polyester products are less durable and do not provide as much resilience to wear, which is why they are not recommended for high traffic areas such as living rooms, hallways, and stairs.

In conclusion, both carpet options have pros and cons that are important to remember when selecting the right choice for you. If you are still unsure in which direction to go, be sure to ask your flooring provider for a second opinion!
